This is the community wiki page for the gene uvs.2 please feel free to add any information that is relevant to this gene that is not already captured elsewhere in Xenbase

This gene was renamed from uvs.2 ( a clone name from the 1990 paper) to a gene name with some information. The gene seems to be one of many astacin like genes in its locus. the "astl" gene symbol is already taken, so this family of genes was named astl2. There is a separate locus on chromosome 8 that has also been cloned and probed and called uvs.2 or xhe, but that locus also has many genes, they are named astl3. There is no synteny to other organisms to consider for these loci, and thus this is a unique Xenopus name
