pou5f3.2

This is the community wiki page for the gene pou5f3.2 please feel free to add any information that is relevant to this gene that is not already captured elsewhere in Xenbase.

On 7/1/2013, the Xenopus gene oct25 was renamed pou5f3.2 (POU class 5 homeobox 3, gene 2). This change reflects the association of the gene to the pou5 family, as observed by synteny analysis between Human, Mouse, Xenopus, Zebrafish, and Coelacanth. The pou5 family already has two members, pou5f1 and pou5f2, in other species. Although the pou5f3 locus is conserved, the pou5f3 genes are missing in mammals. Within Xenopus, the pou5f3 gene was triplicated within the locus, and all three genes have been renamed as pou5f3.1, pou5f3.2, and pou5f3.3 in a 5' to 3' direction. oct91 is now pou5f3.1, oct25 is now pou5f3.2, and oct60 is now pou5f3.3.

The following image shows the synteny analysis of the newly named pou5f3 genes. Zfin has also changed their pou5f1 gene at this locus to pou5f3 to coincide with this new naming.

Future publications should use this new name and symbol when referring to these genes.
