Human name has changed for Entrez Gene: 284266. From sialic acid binding Ig-like lectin 15 to sialic acid binding Ig like lectin 15
25FEB2025
Following recommendation from NCBIs RefSeq ( see RSCOM-705 XB-GENE-920159 (siglec15) and XB-GENE-29094063 (LOC116408355)), the name of this gen has changed from sialic acid binding Ig like lectin 15 to sialic acid binding Ig like lectin 15 like.
RefSeq Curators noted the NCBI assertion that the X.trop LOC116408355, sitting adjacent to slc14a2, is the best candidate for human SIGLEC15 ortholog.
BLAST of the Xtrop protein XP_031750988 against X. laevis identfies GeneID 108705512 = 'LOC108705512 sialic acid-binding Ig-like lectin 15' on chr1S (90% identical) , and on chr1L, uncharacterized LOC108695899 (91% identical) as best matches.
These 2 X. laevis genes are also adjacent to slc14a2 et al on Chr1S/L respectively, so synteny also support these genes as orthologs of the true siglec15, and were moved to XB-GENEPAGE-29094062.
This leaves the issue of characterizing/renaming Xtrop geneID:100487460.
BLASTp (XP_031750989) against X.laevis also identify it as a siglec15 gene ( hitting LOCs above)
Unfortuantely , synteny is imperfect and doesn't solve the naming issue:
Xtr chr1: pias2> eef2.2< gene?>. epg5< pstpip2<
Xla chr1S: pias2.S> eef2.2.S< st8sia5.S> LOC121399193> loxhd1.S>
Xla chr1L: pstpip2> epg5.L> *LOC108695899|siglec15.L *> slc14a2.L<
Also note the protein (XP_031750989) matches EggNog homology group for SIGLEC15 with high confidence, but also GPA33 based on shared 'Immunoglobulin V-set domain'.
Based on this we have renamed Xtrop geneID:100487460 as another like gene for now instead of reverting it to an anonymous loc# , so siglec15l.
