prss27

This is the community wiki page for the gene prss27 please feel free to add any information that is relevant to this gene that is not already captured elsewhere in Xenbase.

Summary from NCBI for human PRSS27

This gene is located within a large protease gene cluster on chromosome 16. It belongs to the group-1 subfamily of serine proteases. The encoded protein is a secreted tryptic serine protease and is expressed mainly in the pancreas. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2016].

nomenclature changes

Human name has changed for Entrez Gene: 83886. From protease, serine 27 to serine protease 27

In Xenopus, provisionally, there appears to be 3 tandemly duplicate prss27 genes on the terminal end of Chromosome 9. As the first gene is already named and assigned as the ortholog of human PRSS27, convenition has it that this gene is designated gene 1, and the next two will be provisionally called "prss27 gene 2" (prss27.2) and "prss27 gene 3" (prss27.3). However, as there are at least 18 publications to date referring to prss27, to maintain clarity going forward, we will not add the gene 1 suffix (.1) to the gene symbol here.
