The germes gene is located Chromosome 3 in Xenopus. Neighboring genes are ing3 and cped1. While a BLAST of germes mRNA returns exons in the chr3S, these hits are of low quality (84%-88% identity), and several exons are missing. This indicates that the germes.S gene was lost in X. laevis.
