nomenlcature updates

04/22/ 2016

Human name has changed for Entrez Gene: 57732. From zinc finger, FYVE domain containing 28 to zinc finger FYVE-type containing 28

09JAN2022

Following request from NCI\BI RefSeq team Curator David Webb:

X. tropicalis GeneID: 779953 (on Chromosome 1) gene symbol and gene name has changed from zfyve28 , zinc finger FYVE-type containing 28 to zfyve28a, zinc finger FYVE-type containing 28a

The X. laevis GeneID: 447053 (on Chromosome 3L) will be removed from XB-GENEPAGE-1219056 and added to the new Gene Page and named zfyve28b, zinc finger FYVE-type containing 28b.

Note that NCBI refSeq consider the X. laevis assembly to be too fragmented to confidently determine the other zfyve28-like genes.

Note that the human ZFYVE28 gene is named "zinc finger FYVE-type containing 28" but the protein is named "lateral signaling target protein 2 homolog". [Note how it resides next to fam193b.L]

synteny and conservation

Like most non-placental gnathostomes, Xenopus has two ZFYVE28-like genes but only one of them was informatively named.

Placental mammals likely lost one of the ZFYVE28-like genes when a gene block was translocated.

Note that the human ZFYVE28 gene is named "zinc finger FYVE-type containing 28" but the protein is named "lateral signaling target protein 2 homolog". [Note how it resides next to fam193b.L]

Two ZFYVE28 orthologous genes are present at least as far back as gnathostomes and up to marsupials while one gene copy is then lost in placental mammals after a gene block translocation.

Like other gnathostomes*, placental mammals have: FAM193A< RNF4< CFAP99< ZFYVE28a> MXD4> HAUS3> POLN>

  • not seen in zebrafish and osteichthyes who have moved zfyve28

GeneID: 777615 ZDB-GENE-061103-208 NM_001077723.1:NP_001071191.1 seems to be the lone zfyve28 gene in zebrafish.

non-placental gnathostomes* also have: DOK3< DDX41< FAM193B< ZFYVE28b> MXD3> PRELID1< RAB24>

  • not found in zebrafish and teleosts who have likely lost ZFYVE28b

placental mammals have: FAM193B> DDX41> DOX3> /many genes/ SLC34A1< RGS14< LMAN2> ZFYVE28b> MXD3> PRELID1< RAB24>
