The X. tropicalis gene (NCBI:100485335, XB-model:XBXT10g008942) previously named LOC100485335 and referred in the literature as pax6.2 (PMID: 25724657; PMCID: PMC4549229; DOI: 10.1016/j.ydbio.2015.02.012), was identified as a paralog of the pax6 / "paired box 6" gene (NCBI:448447, XB-model:XBXT10g001595) and verified by Xenbase curators. Due to its location on a separate genomic locus (chr7) than pax6 (chr4), it is assigned the name pax6l / "paired box 6 like".


X. laevis orthologs of pax6l were identified by synteny and sequence homology as (L homeolog: NCBI-ID:108696727, XB-model:XBXL10_1g31762) and (S homeolog: NCBI:108697776, XB-model:XBXL10_1g33691), previously LOC108696727 and LOC108697776, respectively.


Synonyms for previously assigned/referenced gene symbols pax6.2, LOC100485335, LOC108696727 and LOC108697776 are submitted for addition to the XB-GENEPAGE-29077750 for searchability.
