31JAN2023 The cyp2a6 genes in Xenopus have undergone a series of tandem duplication events, resulting in at least 15 duplicated genes.
All genes in the cyp2a6 gene family are found on Chr8/8L/8S in Xenopus, and are flanked by rab4b and egin2 nominally upstream, and axl and olfm4 downstream.
Based on synteny, protein alignmnet and phlogenetic analyses (COBALT run RID XJNBG46W212 (36 seqs)) of the protein coding sequences for all the v10 gene models annotations, several new models have been added to the cyp2a6 Xenbase gene pages, and 2 more duplications have been identified between cyp2a6.1 and axl in X. tropicalis. To preserve the currenting naming scheme, and to avoid confusion, these newly annoatated gene models will be called cyp2a6.14 and cyp2a6.15. A 3rd newly annotated allele in Xtrop (MGC69353) and Xlaevis.L (LOC108698627) is a cytochrome p450-related or cytochrome p450-like protein, according to DIOPT/EggNog homology grouping, but doesn't appear to be a cyp2a6 family member.
