''Adam11 is a member of the non-proteolytic ADAM that appears essential for the proper function of the central nervous system in mammals (Takahashi et al., 2006a; Takahashi et al., 2006b). In addition, ADAM11 was identified as a putative tumor suppressor 30 years ago, but no additional data in support of this hypothesis was ever published (Emi et al., 1993). Here, we show that Adam11 influences Wnt and BMP4 signaling pathways during neurulation and neural crest cell migration. Loss of Adam11 increases β-catenin transcriptional activity and decreases BMP4 signaling. Loss of Adam11 accelerates neural tube closure and accelerates the transition from collective to single-cell migration in the CNC. We further show that Adam11 expression is reduced in multiple tumors. We propose that Adam11 functions as a regulator of Wnt and BMP4 signaling to control the expression of neural and neural crest differentiation markers as well as the onset of EMT and morphogenetic movement in the embryo.'' |

the Xmdc11 synonym is still good, and Xenopus researcher will no doubt use adam11 and not mdc in any new articles because they all use the most up-to-date nomenclature for their genes!
