There are 3 'RERG' family genes annotated inv10 genome for Xenopus tropicalis:
1) rerg RAS like estrogen regulated growth inhibitor on chr3/3L. XB-GENEPAGE-489596
2) rergl RERG/RAS-like on Chr3/3L/3S XB-GENEPAGE-6037389
3) rergl2 RAS like estrogen regulated growth inhibitor like 2 (provisional) on Chr4/4L [XB-GENEPAGE-877260] where its is flanked by mrpl21, ighmbp2, syt12 ptdss2 downstream (the upstream the genes are uncharacterized)
Based on pattern of synteny, the rergl2 X. tropicalis gene (GeneID:100145332) is NOT the true ortholog of human RERG nor RERGL. It seems to be a Xenopus and possibly other amphibian species' gene is very similar to RERGL, so is named is provisionally here with the '2' suffix, assuming it is a unique rergl gene, but not a .2 as this is solely used for tandem duplications.
