Xenopus tropicalis gene symbol and name changed names from slc18a2, solute carrier family 18 member A2, to scl18a1.2, solute carrier family 18 member A1 gene 2, prompted by orthology calls from NCBI and supported DIOPT and synteny analysis. The X. laevis model on this page was previously called LOC108711608, synaptic vesicular amine transporter. Synteny shows a series of dulicated slc18a1 gene on X. laevis Chr3L, and although not totally resolved or resolveable, this loci seems to be a paralog of the scl18a1.1.L gene based on AA alignment and ML/NJ trees.
Note that X.tropicalis has 8 copies of 'slc18a1' genes (scl18a1 through slc18a1.8) on Chr3.
X. laevis similary has 10 copies of slc18a1 on Chr3L, and a further 6 copies (including a pseudogene) on Chr3S. However, not all genes are homeologs- many seems to be paralogs within each subgenome.
Note that true 'slc18a2' genes are found on Chr7/7L/7S in Xenopus.
