''il9'' in ''X. tropicalis'' has 5 exons, and il9l/LOC121401224 the ''X. laevis'' gene contains 3 exons not 5. They could find no other 3exon il9 gene (and they looked at many species) in which this divergence had taken place. In all other species examined, IL9 has 5 exons.

’’il9’’

This is the Xenbase wiki page for the ‘’Xenopus’’ ‘il9’’ genes. Please add any relevant information here that is not represented elsewhere on Xenbase.

nomenclature notes

The difference between il9 in X.tropicalis and X.laevis have been extensivley investifgated by Dr Daron Barnard ar Worcester University.

il9 in X. tropicalis has 5 exons, and il9l/LOC121401224 the X. laevis gene contains 3 exons, not 5. They could find no other 3-exon IL9 orthologs in any of the numerous species they examined, in which this divergent structure occured. In all other species examined, IL9 has 5 exons.

Xenbase and NCBI thus had originally annotated X. laevis gene "il9-like" and XB represented these genes on differengt gene pages [XB-GENEPAGE-29071399], however, as the synteny is conserved and the end of the gene (last few exons) has a degree of similarity, we have decided to put them on the same genepage, and the X. laevis gene will also be called il9.L, not il9l.L.

XB il9 is on this XB-GENEPAGE-25874677 and the previous il9l genepage XB-GENEPAGE-29071399 will be deprecated/deleted.

synteny

Synteny supports that these 2 genes are paralogs/ homologs of each other

X.trop: thg1l>… fbxl21<... il9> … slc25a48> …cxcl14>

X.laevis: (rv) fbzl21.L< ...il9.L> … slc25a48< …cxc14.L>
