nomenclature changes

06NOV2025

Following analysis of protein sequence and synteny, these Xenopus genes have be renamed mcm3, minichromosome maintenance complex component 3, changed from "zmcm3, Putative ortholog of dNA replication licensing factor MCM3 (DNA polymerase alpha holoenzyme-associated protein P1) (RLF beta subunit) (P102 protein) (P1-MCM3), 1 of 1".

Synteny shows that these chr 5/5L genes, flanked by il17 and paqr8, efhc1, tram2 are the true orthologs of human MCM3. Indeed NCBI also recognizes X. tropicalis Gene ID: 734092 as the ortholog of MCM3.

In summary 'zmcm3' has been renamed 'mcm3', and old 'mcm3' genes have been renamed 'mcm3l'.

nomenclature updates

05FEB2025

gene name changed from teh cumbersome "Putative ortholog of dNA replication licensing factor MCM3 (DNA polymerase alpha holoenzyme-associated protein P1) (RLF beta subunit) (P102 protein) (P1-MCM3), 1 of 1". to "putative ortholog of dNA replication licensing factor MCM3".
