Based on DIOPT orthology analysis, NCBI's characterization and synteny, this gene name has been updated from LOC100489060 to ''a2m.2, alpha-2-macroglobulin gene 2'' based on an apparent duplication upstream of ''a2m'' on ''X. tropicalis'' chromosome 7.

Note that the next adjacent gene/loci, LOC100488897, which may be  ''a2m.3'' in Xtrop., is currently called 'ovostatin', but has the same molecular function description as ''a2m'' and ''a2m.2''.

''Xenopus'' Gene Name and symbol was changed from ''a2m.2, alpha-2-macroglobulin gene 2'' to ''a2mb, alpha-2-macroglobulin B'' following phylogenetic analysis of the vertebrate ovostatin and A2M protein/gene family by the HGNC.
''a2m.2'' is recorded as a synonym.

nomenclature updates

10JULY2025

Based on DIOPT orthology analysis, NCBI's characterization and synteny, this gene name has been updated from LOC100489060 to a2m.2, alpha-2-macroglobulin gene 2 based on an apparent duplication upstream of a2m on X. tropicalis chromosome 7.

Note that the next adjacent gene/loci, LOC100488897, which may be a2m.3 in Xtrop., is currently called 'ovostatin', but has the same molecular function description as a2m and a2m.2.

18DEC2025

Xenopus Gene Name and symbol was changed from a2m.2, alpha-2-macroglobulin gene 2 to a2mb, alpha-2-macroglobulin B following phylogenetic analysis of the vertebrate ovostatin and A2M protein/gene family by the HGNC.

a2m.2 is recorded as a synonym.
