nomenclature & annotation updates

11MAY2026

Xenopus gene nomenclature was updated to follow the names of human orthologs as assessed by NCBI, changing from c1qtnf1, C1q and TNF related 1 to c1qtnf8, C1q and TNF related 8.

This is supported by synteny, and appears to have been a misidentified loci in the NCBI's v10 X. tropcailis genome annotation, which Xenbase adopted.

synteny:

X. tropicalis CHR9: sox8> sstr5> LOC#< LOC#> c1qtnf8< [string of LOCs<<<<>]

Human: SOX8> SSTR5> CIQTNF8<

VERSUS

X.tropicalis chr10: timp2< cant1> engase< rbfox3> (no c1qtnf1 model!!)

Xlaevis chr9_10L: foxrb3.L> engase.L> cant1.L> timp2.L>. ( no X.laevis c1qtnf1 model here either)

human: CANT1< C1QTNF1> ENGASE>
