nat16.12

nomenclature updates

25MAY2026

Xenopus gene symbol and name were updated, changing from LOC100495706, probable N-acetyltransferase 16 to nat16.3, N-acetyltransferase 16 gene 3.

The protein for the tropicalis gene matches the NAT16 homology group in >70 species ( using EggNog5.0) with very high confidence, and the protein has already been characterised at a nat16 ortholog.

There are numerous duplicates of nat16 in Xenopus, all on chr 3, separated only by a string of "histidine N-acetyltransferase" and "histidine N-acetyltransferase- like" gene models. As no gene symbol can be immediately applied to this latter genes, I am skipping them and naming this gene model 'gene 312' in the series for X. tropicalis, which will be the appropriate number in the series relative to gene order, for this N-acetyltransferase gene/protein in X. tropicalis.
