nomenclature changes

3/21/2022

The gene symbol and gene name changed from ST3 beta-galactoside alpha-2,3-sialyltransferase 2, gene 2, st3gal2.2 to ST3 beta-galactoside alpha-2,3-sialyltransferase 8, st3gal8 following review by HGNC.

This ST3 sialyltransferase gene is the ortholog of st3gal8 in zebrafish; it also has conserved synteny with. zebrafish st3gal8, with the flanking fer1l4 genes. Our specialist advisor for the sialyltransferases, Prof. Anne Harduin-Lepers, has also looked at this (and published on it in https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4379398/ and https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5000683/) and agrees it. should be assigned as st3gal8
