notes on current research on prdm12

prdm12 is an uncharaterised member of the zinc-finger family, being studied inXenopus in the lab of Eric Bellefroid, ULB, Belguim.

prdm12 is expressed in restricted regions of the developing nervous sytstem of Xenopus: in progeneitors of ventral spinal cord of the CNS, in the trunk region, and in the peripheral nervous system as well. prdm12 is expressed in p1 (neural ) progentors in the ventral neural tube, and acts as a repressor to dbx1 and en1 in developing spinal cord. prdm12 also appears to act as a G9a dependent repressor to induce en1 ( engrailed 1), It also binds to dbx1 promoters ( and represses dbx1 activity) and binds to nkx6.1 promtoers. prdm12 required for trigemial ganglia formation ( one fo the cranial nerves).

In Human, mutations in prdm12 causes a congenital insensity to pain (CIP) ( Chen et al) Nature Genetics 2015).
