nomenclature updates

06NOV2025

Xenopus gene symbol was updated from LOC116411646 to cof28l to create a unique, but more informative symbol. Note that this zinc finger protein is not well named, but named after a protein clone name. We came across it when removing species identifiers (in the this case 'xl' for X laevis) from gene symbols.

Clearly there are 100s of zinc fingers that need better names based on orthology, phylogenetic clusters and synteny... which won't happen anytime soon ! CJZ
