nomenclature updates

14MAY2026

Xenopus gene name was changed from or6n3, olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily N member 3 to or6n2, olfactory receptor family 6 subfamily N member 2 to match the human ortholog as identified by NCBI.

Note tha Olfactory Receptors are short 1 exon genes that evolve quickly, and generally are impossible to classify by sequence similarity or synteny. Xenopus ORs have a unique naming system, however, or6n3 seems very simialr to the Human OR6N3, so we are happy to give it the same symbol, although it is probably NOT a true ortholog (ie with shared inherited ancestry).
