nomenclature changes
08OCT2026
Xenopus gene name was changed from "LOC733714, novel solute carrier family 18 (vesicular monoamine) slca18 protein" to slc18a1.3, solute carrier family 18 member A1 gene 3, prompted by orthology calls from NCBI and supported DIOPT and synteny analysis.
Note that X.tropicalis has 8 copies of 'slc18a1' genes on Chr3 to which we have applied new names: scl18a1 (.1) through slc18a1.8.
X. laevis similary has 8 copies on Chr3L, and 6 copies on the Chr3S, although several seem to be in-paralog duplicates and are significantly divergent from the X. tropicalis gene/protein sequences.
We have assigned these LOC# gene models new gene symbols/names based on synteny/conserved gene order, as well as protein sequence & NJ and ML phylogeny/cladograms, while preserving the original 'slc18a1' designation for Xtrop Gene ID:594935.
Note that duplicates are both upstream and downstream of Xtr.slc18a1.
Note also that true 'slc18a2' genes are found on Chr7/7L/7S in Xenopus.
