This is the community wiki page for the gene ndnf please feel free to add any information that is relevant to this gene that is not already captured elsewhere in Xenbase.
nomenclature updates
03MARCH202
There is still a nomencature clashes with the Xenopus NDNF genes.
This is how I resolved them:
1) XB-GENEPAGE-1016848 has 3x v10 gene models for ndnf genes, all on chr 1/1L/1S. These genes are the true orthologs of human NDNF, supported by synenty, and keep the 'ndnf gene symbol.
2) XB-GENEPAGE-22066195 has 3x v10 gene models called ndnf but shousl logically be called 'like' genes, all on chr 3/3L/3S. These genes have been assigned ndnfl1 gene symbol. As they are not a tandem duplications of ndnf we do not use the dot /.2 suffix!
Note that as of 3/3/2025, XB-GENEPAGE-22066202 had a Xtrop.v9 gene model on Chr3. This model was moved to support XB-GENE-22066196 [100495023] on XB-GENEPAGE-22066195. XB-GENEPAGE-22066202, now empty, will be deleted from the database.
3) XB-GENEPAGE-22066209 has 3x v10 gene models called ndnf but should logically be called 'like' genes also, all on chr 7/7L/7S. These genes have been assigned ndnfl2 gene symbol.

Summary of human NDNF from NCBI & AGR
Predicted to enable heparin binding activity. Involved in several processes, including cellular response to hypoxia; negative regulation of apoptotic process; and nitric oxide mediated signal transduction. Located in extracellular region. Is active in extracellular space. Implicated in hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Feb 2025]
Synteny
Synteny supports these Xenopus genes to be the true orthologs of human NDNF
