The human TRPC2  gene has been re-annotated after it was examined in more detail in vertebrates by the NCBI RefSeq team. They wrote: "In vertebrates we've overlooked annotating the XNDC1 gene upstream of TRPC2 due to over-extension of the TRPC2 CDS (PMID: 21854574).  The over-extension of the TRPC2 CDS arose in part because these two genes are pseudogenized in human while readthrough transcription occurs in mouse. "
Thus the ''Xenopus'' gene name for ''trpc2'' (which follows human) has been updated, removing the "pseudogene" from official name, as it is a functional gene in ''Xenopus''. The gene symbol is unchanged.
