This new 'bdh1' gene was identified by David Webb at NCBI RefSeq project, and is called bdh1b, '3-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase, type 1 B'
bdh1a and bdh1b genes have no human orthologs, being restricted to non-mammalian vertebrates.
