il17a.2

nomenclature changes

27JULY2023

Three genes were annotated in the v10 assembly as il17a-like on the same section of Chromosome 5L. These have been provisionally given the names interleukin 17a gene 1 (il17a) , interleukin 17a gene 2 (il17a.2) and interleukin 17a gene 3 (il17a.3) by Xenbase.

This v10 gene model LOC121393570/il17a.2 maps to the v9.1 model that was annotated as il17f.L and is flanked upstream by il17a.1 and pkhd1.L and downstream by duplicated il17f genes, which have been assigned il17f.1 and il17f.2 by Xenbase.

Note that preliminary phylogenetic analysis and protein alignment of Xenopus proteins indicates that the il17f and il17a proteins/genes in are very closely related, and Xenbase has kept the 'a' and 'f' designation from the v10 NCBI annotation, although this may change with further analysis.
