nomenclature change

07JULY2025

After curatorial review to resolve conflicting Xenopus gene symbols (i.e. zp3, zp3.2 and zpl) nomenclature for these Chromosome 1 genes has changed from zp3.2, zona pellucida glycoprotein 3 (sperm receptor), gene 2 to zp3l, zona pellucida glycoprotein 3 like. This is supporedt by MSA, phylogram and synteny (or lack of synteny).

True ZP3 ortholog are on Chr3/3L/3S. There is a 2nd Chr3 zp3 loci, which is now called zp3.2 although it is not immediately adjacent to zp3, it is close by.

Note that the MSA & phylogram also indicates that none of these Xenopus genes are ZP1, ZP2 or ZP4 orthologs.
