Xenopus gene name changed from LOC100489674, uncharacterized LOC100489674 to izumo1, izumo sperm-oocyte fusion 1.
This gene seems to have a duplication in X. tropicalis LOC116411086, but doesn't appear on Chr3L/3S in X. laevis.
We will provisionally call LOC116411086 izumo1.2.
biological function
The sperm-specific protein Izumo, named for a Japanese shrine dedicated to marriage, is essential for sperm-egg plasma membrane binding and fusion (Inoue et al., 2005 [PubMed 15759005]).[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008].
