This is the community wiki page for the gene b4galt3 please feel free to add any information that is relevant to this gene that is not already captured elsewhere in Xenbase
nomenclature changes
04/06/2020
Human symbol has changed for genepage ID: 988038 From b4galt3l1 to b4galt3
Named changed from UDP-Gal:betaGlcNAc beta 1,4- galactosyltransferase, polypeptide 3 like 1 to beta-1,4-galactosyltransferase 3
08/20/2020
The previous name change was incorrect, and this XB-GENEPAGE-988038 should be named b4galt3l1/beta-1,4-galactosyltransferase 3-like 1 rather than b4galt3. The name has reverted to b4galt3l beta-1,4-galactosyltransferase 3-like 1
notes on synteny/orthologs
from David Webb atNCBI/ RefSeq
The b4galt3l1 gene appears to have been lost in mammals though it goes back at least as far as gnathostomes where it consistently resides between the B4GALT4 and ARHGAP31 genes (it's also missing or moved in some teleosts like D. rerio but it's there in reedfish and spotted gar).
In amphibians, reptiles and birds there's often another gene between B4GALT4 and ARHGAP31 which Xenbase correctly identifies as b3gat1l (XB-GENEPAGE-5956385; GeneID: 594896).
